The Historical Society is in the middle of producing The Forgotten Signature, a short film about Roger Sherman. Clips of some of the early filming are being shown on social media and it looks amazing. Filmmaker Eric Lake is doing a masterful job, with the help of his lovely wife and several Historical Society worker bees, at making this an authentic period piece. Almost all of the actors in it (even yours truly has a small part) are from Sherman and it all culminates into the story of Roger Sherman who is arguably one of the most important people in the formation of our great country. Yet, many will attest, he does not receive the credit he deserves. A town-wide viewing of this film is slated for after the new year.

This Saturday evening, September 19 at 7pm at the JCC, the Sherman Chamber Ensemble lets its hair down and performs its annual coffeehouse. This “groovy” night features pop and rock ‘n roll tunes from the 60s through today. It’s always a lot of fun and if you like to dance, well, you will be in the right place.

Also, our Sherman Players at the Sherman Playhouse present Inherit the Wind this weekend. It opens on September 17 and plays on the weekends through October 4. The phone number for reservations is 860 354 3622.

The re-surfacing of Anderson Road begins in the next two weeks weather permitting. Kudos to Kris Fazzone and his public works department for the prep work on this and also for managing the project so well. Anderson is one of our longest Town roads, and this work is much needed. Meanwhile, the damage (some of it from inordinate rainfall this summer) on other roads is being addressed in the order that works best. If your road needs work, please be patient: public works will get to it.  Regarding larger resurfacing projects, this will be discussed at our next Board of Selectmen meeting on September 24. We will discuss the order of the projects (which include Cozier Hill, Cozier Hill Extension, Chestnut Hill, and Sherwood Hill Road) and the funding mechanisms for each one.

Thank you to all who attended our memorial presentation for September 11. Big thank you to the Sherman Scouts for hosting the event and also a big thank you to former Sherman resident Jim Daly who spoke so eloquently and honestly about his profound and personal experience on that tragic day. We had a good showing from our Sherman Volunteer Fire Department, members of the community, and also our probate judge, Marty Landgrebe, who attended. It was wonderful to see everyone. It’s hard to believe that 25 years have passed since that day, a day most of us remember like yesterday.
