Early voting in the Democratic primary for governor (Lamont vs. Elliot) begins on August 3 and goes through August 9. The hours for August 3, 5, 7, 8, and 9 are from 10am to 6pm. The hours for August 4 and August 6 are from 8am to 8pm. The voting takes place in Mallory Town Hall. The election date is August 11. The last date to secure an absentee ballot is August 10.
If you haven’t already, get your tickets for the Fireman’s Ball which will be held this Saturday, Aug 1. Doors open at 4:30. This is a wonderful community event for a great cause. Looking forward to seeing you there!
Our 2026 Sherman Summer Camp has been another big success. We have served more than 240 campers in both our Senior and Juniors Camps. There have been field trips to water parks along with the usual array of camp activities. Of course, there’s been plenty of swimming in Candlewood Lake. We thank the Sherman JCC for providing a terrific facility for our Junior Camp while the Sherman School construction continues.
Pizza night on the Green is becoming a Friday night staple now and I hear raves about the pizza. Live music is going to be added to the evening and it’s a great night to take a break from cooking and to meet other friends and neighbors. Kudos to Rich at the Daily Market for making this happen.
The new Senior Center project is moving along. The building committee is interviewing 5 finalists for architect on Monday, Aug 3 and Wednesday, Aug. 5. Both meetings are at 7pm and will be held in the present Senior Center. There will also be a separate meeting following the Wednesday night interviews to select the architect, so we should know who it is on Thursday morning.
We are looking for another member for our Commission on Aging and there is also a vacancy on the Commission for the Arts. Both of these are advisory commissions that deal with the respective issues that they represent. They meet once a month and serving on these commissions is an excellent way to get involved. Regarding the Commission on Aging, any age of individual can seek an appointment. Regarding the Commission for the Arts, one doesn’t need to be an artist; but rather, the person just needs to have an interest in arts events that suit Sherman.
