Sherman will have an amazing event in its near future: On the Saturdays of June 13, 20, 27, and July 4 and 11, from noon to 4pm at the Sherman Historical Society’s Northrup House there will a Roger Sherman exhibit. This is an educational interactive exhibit to celebrate our Town’s namesake, who is one of the main Founding Father’s of our democracy. We thank the Sherman Historical Society for this wonderful exhibit and especially thank Town historian, John Cilio, for his extensive research and diligence in putting this together.

I had the pleasure of being accompanied by John Cilio in a Connecticut state-sponsored 250th Celebration interview about Roger Sherman. I witnessed first-hand John’s amazing knowledge regarding all aspects of Roger Sherman – farmer, shoemaker, surveyor, Town official, attorney, judge, and Federal stateman as both a congressman and senator. As a by-product, I learned just how remarkable and critically important Roger Sherman was to the formation of our country. When you attend the exhibition at the Historical Society in June and July, you will learn the same thing and more!

This is a good time to mention that drop-offs for the famous Sherman Barn Sale sponsored by the Historical Society are on the Saturdays of April 25, May 2, and May 9 from 9am to noon at the barn. Please do not drop off items at any other times. The Barn Sale is a big event and is part of the Memorial Day weekend events.

The Board of Selectmen is holding its regularly scheduled monthly meeting this Thursday, April 23 at 7pm in Mallory Town Hall. The agenda is on the Town website as is the code for watching the meeting remotely on TEAMS. Along with updates on the Sherman School project and the new Senior Center building project, there are items concerning the resurfacing of the Veterans Field basketball court and fixing up (a spiffing up) of the Veterans Field bathrooms. The bathrooms were repaired and made useable (just in time for Memorial Day weekend) in my first year in office – 2018. Now they need a little love and care and will get it, hopefully, before Memorial Day.

Spring is reluctantly coming although it was 31 degrees at my house this morning. But as Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu opines: "Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished."
