Our Hometown Heroes banners are now up and in place. They are all around the Sherman Green and up the hill by Mallory Town Hall. I am very pleased by their placement as drivers will be going slow enough to actually see them and be able to reflect on Sherman veterans past and present who are pictured on the banners. On May 16 at 11am we are having a ceremony at the Town Green gazebo for the banner program. Please come by!

This Saturday is the Third Annual Sherman Community Expo 2026 on Saturday May 2 from 11-3pm on the Sherman Town Green (Rain date: May 3).  The Sherman Conservation Commission and the Sherman Commission for the Arts are hosting this event with over twenty plus Sherman arts & cultural organizations, conservation organizations and other town organizations will be on hand to tell you about their activities and to share their knowledge with you. There will be games for the kids, ice cream, and live music.

Also, this Saturday, May 2 from 10am to 8pm in Charter Hall is the budget referendum wherein you can vote on the Town and the Board of Education budgets. This was an especially challenging year as it included the first debt service payments for the Sherman School renovation/repair project. We did our very best to contain the budget increase which is, overall, 4.4%. In the last nine budgets we have had only two other increases, and they were each around 2%. In these last nine budgets we also had four years of decreased budgets and two years of flat budgets.  Please review the mailer that we sent out explaining the details of both budgets, and especially, please come out and vote.

Public Works has a great deal of wood from all of the tree work being done lately and will deliver it to your home if you ask for it. Let me be clear: This is unprocessed and unseasoned wood. This is NOT wood that is cut or split. It is logs of various sizes from recent cuttings. But if you are someone who likes to put up their own firewood (I do!) then this is perfect. We are looking for a board member to fill a vacancy on the Commission for Aging. This commission deals with senior issues and they are looking for someone who is willing to step up and help with events and other activities. You do not need to be a senior citizen to be on this commission. They meet once a month (generally every third Monday at 4pm) in Mallory Town Hall and have very concise, organized meetings. Reach out to me if you are interested in serving on this terrific commission.
