The Sherman Library is pleased to offer Ghostship: The Mystery of the Mary Celeste presented by Jason Scappaticci on Thursday, October 29th at 7:00pm. This is a remote program via Zoom.
 
This program explores the enduring enigma of the Mary Celeste, the 19th-century merchant ship found adrift in the Atlantic with no sign of its crew. We’ll examine the known facts of the voyage, the condition of the ship when it was discovered, and the many theories—ranging from the practical to the fantastical— that attempt to explain the disappearance. Separating myth from evidence, the talk reveals how one maritime incident became one of history’s most famous ghost-ship legends.
 
Jason Scappaticci is the Associate Dean of Student Affairs at Capital Community College. He earned a B.A. in history from Utica College and an M.A. in American studies from Trinity College in Hartford. He has a passion for history and enjoys sharing that passion with others. Jason has given many lectures around the state to libraries and historical societies.
