Virtual Sunday Speaker Series: Taking Better Pictures with Your iPhone With Jim Zulakis, Founder of ZULAKISCREATIVE

In this hands-on online workshop, you’ll learn how to move beyond snapshots and begin making photographs with intention. We’ll explore essential composition principles—such as the rule of thirds, framing, and visual balance—and examine how perspective shapes storytelling.

Participants will experiment with creative angles and points of view, breaking free from the standard adult standing position to discover more dynamic and expressive images. We’ll focus on identifying a clear subject, minimizing distractions, and using light thoughtfully.

While angles and approaches cover all camera-phone types, the session will focus on practical instruction for managing the iPhone camera’s shooting and editing capabilities: tapping to focus, adjusting exposure, using portrait mode, and understanding when to switch lenses.

Finally, we’ll explore editing directly in the iOS Photos app—cropping, straightening, refining

light and color—to elevate images with subtle, confident adjustments.

By the end, you’ll see your everyday world with a sharper eye and leave with tools to create images that feel deliberate, composed, and alive.

Course Requirements:

1. One fun table-top object to shoot, eg, a flower arrangement, toy, doll, coffee mug, etc.

2. Updated iPhone iOS 26.x. (Note: If you have an Android phone, only some of this

session is applicable.)
